Sequence 15 carries the alphabet's most reverent convention. By plain arithmetic it would be Yod (10) and Hei (5), but those letters spell a divine Name, so fifteen is written Tet (9) and Vav (6) instead — the alphabet steps aside rather than handle the Name casually in ordinary counting. Today the Father does what the alphabet declines to do: He speaks over the Son and names Him aloud. And the letters given in the Name's place are exact — Tet, the vessel of concealed good, and Vav, the nail that fastens heaven to earth. Thirty years of hidden good are declared and fastened in a single sentence from an opened heaven.

The theme.

At the Jordan the Son is publicly identified by the Father before He has preached a sermon, healed anyone or gathered a disciple. The declaration precedes the ministry. That order is the single most liberating fact available to a working congregation. Teach it carefully, because almost every believer in the room has inverted it — building an identity out of output, and then defending the output because the identity depends on it.

The School of Scriptures.

I.The Declaration Before the Work

Nothing in the public ministry has yet happened. The Father is not pleased with results; He is pleased with the Son. Press the application: if the Father's pleasure in the Son preceded the Son's ministry, then our standing before God is not the wage of our usefulness.

II.Three Persons in One Scene

The Son in the water, the Spirit descending, the Father speaking. Teach the Trinity from the text rather than from a diagram, and note that the entire Godhead is present at the beginning of the Son's public obedience. We are never sent alone, because He was not.

III.Adopted Into the Same Word

Romans 8:14-17 and Galatians 4:6-7 place believers inside that declaration: we receive a spirit of adoption by which we cry Abba, Father. The word spoken over the Son at the Jordan is the word spoken over everyone in Him. Guard against sentimentality here — adoption in the ancient world was a legal act creating an irreversible claim, not a feeling of belonging.

IV.Sons, and Therefore Heirs

Paul finishes the thought with an inheritance and a condition: heirs of God and fellow heirs with Messiah, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him. Close honestly. The identity is a gift; the road it puts you on is not comfortable, and the congregation should know both before the Table.

The Table.

At the breaking of the breadThis is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased. We take the bread inside that sentence, for the Father's pleasure in the Son is the ground of His welcome of us.
At the cupWe have received a spirit of adoption. We take the cup as heirs — not applicants, not employees, not guests on probation.
The summons for the new week

This week, stop auditioning. Identify the one place where you are working to secure a standing you have already been given, and deliberately do less there. Then say the Father's word over someone else: bless one person by name who has nothing to offer you.
