The Son Who Was Tested
Fourth Sabbath — Tempted, Yet Without Sin

Sequence 22 is Kaf (20) and Bet (2), and twenty-two is the number of letters in the Hebrew alphabet — the complete inventory of what anything can be said with. The Kaf is the open palm, capacity, the hand that holds without dropping; the Bet is the house. On the Sabbath of the Son's testing, the sequence supplies the full complement of speech, an open hand and a dwelling — because the assault came in words, aimed at what had just been declared, and the house that withstood it was not defended by force but by an answer.
The theme.
Immediately after the Father's declaration, the Spirit leads the Son into the wilderness to be tempted. Note the sequence with the congregation: affirmation, then testing — and the testing is not a contradiction of the affirmation but its confirmation. Most believers interpret a hard season as evidence that something has gone wrong with their standing. The order of these two events forbids that reading.
The School of Scriptures.
I.Led By the Spirit Into the Wilderness
The wilderness was not a detour and not an ambush. He was led there. Teach the congregation to stop assuming that difficulty implies disobedience, while equally refusing the opposite error of treating every consequence of foolishness as a divine test.
II.Three Assaults on a Confirmed Identity
Two of the three temptations begin with the same conditional: if You are the Son of God. The attack is aimed precisely at what the Father had just declared. Show the congregation where their own testing lands — not usually on doctrine, but on identity, and always at the point of hunger, exposure or ambition.
III.Tempted in All Things, Yet Without Sin
Hebrews makes a claim that must be taught carefully: He did not sin, and therefore He knows the full weight of temptation rather than less of it. The one who yields discovers the pressure only up to the point of surrender. Only the one who never yielded knows how heavy it goes.
IV.Therefore Draw Near With Confidence
Hebrews' conclusion is not caution but boldness. The result of having a tested High Priest is that we approach the throne in the moment of temptation rather than after it. Confront the instinct to withdraw from God until the crisis has passed, which is precisely backwards and is the cause of most avoidable falls.
The Table.
This week, go to God first rather than last. At the next moment of pressure, before you manage it, hide it or yield to it, speak one sentence to Him. And name your point of testing out loud to one trusted person before next Sabbath.
