Sequence 29 is Kaf (20) and Tet (9) — the open palm joined to the vessel of concealed good. Twenty-nine is the count of days in the shorter months, the number of a completed lunar cycle. The palm is what extends and offers; the Tet is what is carried inside it, hidden until it is opened. This is the shape of the Son's speech: ordinary words offered in an open hand, carrying an authority no one could see until it was released. They were amazed, because the container gave no warning of the contents.

The theme.

The first thing the crowds noticed about the Son was not His miracles but His speech: He taught as one having authority. Where the teachers of His day cited other teachers, He spoke as the source. For a congregation whose year is marked by the mouth, this is the governing service of the quarter. Authority in speech is the Son's possession, and any that we exercise is delegated, borrowed and accountable.

The School of Scriptures.

I.Not As the Scribes

The contrast is precise. The scribes transmitted authority; the Son carried it. Teach the difference between speaking under authority and speaking as though one had generated it. Every teacher in CMI stands in the first category, and confusing the two is how congregations are wounded.

II.The Words I Speak Are Spirit and Life

In John 6, when the crowd leaves, Peter answers with the only reason to stay: You have words of eternal life. Show that the Son's words are not merely accurate but life-giving — they do something rather than only describe something.

III.Only Say the Word

The centurion understood authority as a chain of command and recognised it in the Son, and the Son marked it as the greatest faith He had found (Matthew 8:8-10). Teach faith as the recognition of legitimate authority rather than as intensity of feeling.

IV.The Tongue Is a Fire

James refuses to let the doctrine stay theoretical. The same mouth blesses and curses, and this ought not to be. Bring it home concretely — the reply you sent, the thing you said about someone in their absence, the word used to control a family member. In a house that celebrates the authority of the Son's word, careless speech is not a small sin.

The Table.

At the breaking of the breadHe said, take, eat. We do not improve on that sentence. We take the bread because He spoke, and His word does what it says.
At the cupThis cup is the new covenant in His blood. We take it as those who have heard words of eternal life and have nowhere else to go.
The summons for the new week

This week, weigh your speech. Do not attach the Lord's authority to your preference — where you have said God told you and meant you decided, correct it to the person you said it to. And this week, keep one hard word unsaid for twenty-four hours before you say it.
